NINA AND PINTA IN TUSCALOOSA

On Friday, November 15th, the ‘Pinta’ and the ‘Nina’, replicas of Columbus’ ships will open in Tuscaloosa. The ships will be docked at 1 Greensboro Avenue, until their departure Tuesday, November 19th afternoon.

The ‘Nina’ was built in Brazil completely by hand and without the use of power tools.  Archaeology magazine called the ship “the most historically correct Columbus replica ever built.”  In 2005, the ‘Pinta’, also a caravel, was launched in Brazil, and was the first ship to sight land in the New World.   Historians consider the caravel the Space Shuttle of the fifteenth century.

Both ships tour together as an enhanced ‘sailing museum’, for the purpose of educating the public and school children on the ‘caravel’, a Portuguese ship used by Columbus and many early explorers to discover the world. Before him, the Old World and the New remained separate and distinct continents and ever since their fates have been bound together for better or for worse.

The ships will be available for 30-minute guided tours with a crew member on Friday, November 15th through Tuesday 12:00 pm, November 19th.   The hours are from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. every day except Tuesday, November 19th when they will close early afternoon.  The charge per person is $5.00 with a minimum of 15.  There is no maximum number of students that can be booked; however, you should book as soon as possible as space is limited.  To book a tour either call 787 672 2152 or visit our website www.ninapinta.org, click on “Take a Tour” and fill out the online form.

For additional information, please visit our website at www.ninapinta.org.  Educational materials, photographs and other ship related souvenirs are available at the ship. While in port, the general public is invited to visit the ships for a walk aboard self-guided tour.   The prices are $8.50 for adults, $7.50 for senior citizens and $6.50 for students 5 to 16.  Children 4 and under are Free.   No Reservations necessary for general public.

TUSCALOOSA THEATRE TROUPE

We want to thank everyone who gave their input on what works best for homeschoolers!

We are so thankful for the community who has shown us support and understanding while we grow!  We have had 3 amazing shows!  We took everything back to the drawing board and have started to plan out our season as this is how we will operate from now on with a PLANNED SEASON!

Regarding the homeschoolers this is what we established from your feedback.

1.  That the earlier the announcement the better you can work it into your schedule.

2.  That rehearsals over several weeks is better than an intensive workshop/camp style show.

3.  Spring was better than football season!

4.  Lessons in the morning were better because they are indeed homeschoolers.

5.  That theatre was an important part of the school day!

6.  That you did indeed want a home schoolers only show!

So here we are!  The next homeschoolers show will be next spring 2020.  We have kept rehearsals as few as possible while also factoring in that some people will miss some rehearsal due to conflicts and that the show needs to be epic, like the last one!  We only have 11 rehearsals scheduled.  We hope you support us again to make this show as amazing as Sleeping Beauty was!

We cannot put this show on if we don't have the support!  Please please support us.

Thank you again to everyone who messaged us, called us, email and took part in the poll!

The spring show is going to be a little different in that we will also be filming a documentary on theatre kids!  This is going to be a wonderful way for your kids to learn and see what if feels like to be on stage and a movie! The documentary style film will be premiered at the next Alabama Movie Camp on the big screen!  You will get to walk the red carpet with your thespian star!  The date of the premier will be announced by Alabama Movie Camp.
