Not a lot of info is coming our way but the following will be what has been received. It will also be on the website (tuscaloosahomeeducators.com). Very few of you have asked to join the website so you’ve not had access to the whole site. Please do that because these emails will stop being done.
There has been a lot of current posting on social media so be sure and check out Facebook and Instagram for homeschool related postings.

VOLUNTEER POLL WORKER
Junior or Seniors in high school who are at least 16 may apply to work at the polls for the upcoming elections in March. This would be a great opportunity for hands on experience and credit in Civics. If you have a student who meets the qualifications and is interested then reply to this email for an application and more information. Applications must be received by Friday, February 7th.
NURSING HOME VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Kimberly Adams at Morning Pointe of Tuscaloosa reached out to the homeschool community about the possibility of volunteering at the facility. If you’re interested please contact her by phone at 205-345-1112 or email tuscaloosa-lpc@morningpointe.com.
WARRIORS TENNIS TRYOUTS
Mark your calendars! Warriors Tennis Tryouts February 1, 12:00-4:00 at Bowers Park. Anyone with some tennis experience is invited even if you have not been to our match play times this fall. However, please remember this is not for players who have never played the game.
Our preference is for everyone to make a specific effort to plan your schedules around this date. If for some reason you already have a conflict on that date, we will offer a “makeup” tryout date on Monday, Feb 3 from 4:00-6:00 at Bowers. Please contact Amy Naramore at 205-534-0490 if you intend on coming to the makeup date.
Please feel free to send this announcement out to anyone you know who may be interested.
Get with your friends and practice your skills! We are looking forward to a great season!
NEW SPORT POSSIBILITY-SOCCER
I am interested in putting together a soccer team for homeschoolers, grades 7-12. We would train through PARA, and they would help with coaching. The games would most likely be in Birmingham, or nearby. I don’t have a whole lot more details right now. But contact me if you are interested, and we will have a meeting and discuss more fully. This could be as early as this spring, if enough people want to, or certainly the fall.

ANOTHER NON-SPORT ANNOUNCEMENT-ART GARAGE
My name is Joanna Lemmon. I am a wife, mom, and art teacher. I have been teaching children for many years. When my family relocated to Tuscaloosa six years ago, we saw the need for something new and exciting that doesn’t exist here. We saw the need for a place for children, babies, and adults to explore art through directed and unstructured opportunities in an inspiring environment. We saw the need for the Art Garage. We are trying to make a place where we would want to let our children explore. Where we would want to go ourselves. We want to see the community of Tuscaloosa grow and be challenged with their options for entertainment and education.
Imagine a place that can offer classes, unstructured open play space, art books, and access to artists and art helpers. This is what we have dreamed to start here in Tuscaloosa. After teaching art for many years, it has been so exciting to see people come alongside us and campaign for this Tuscaloosa amenity. We think children will love the Art Garage. We even think that adults will love it too and may find old desires to create, awakening.
A few years ago I had the opportunity to teach a homeschool art class here in Tuscaloosa. I was limited by where I could host the class. With the prospect of the Art Garage, a location for a weekly homeschool class will not be a problem.
The Art Garage plans to host weekly classes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers, homeschoolers, after school classes, and special friends classes.
After hearing from many citizens of Tuscaloosa we know this is something that the community desires. Will you consider supporting this new and unique opportunity for Tuscaloosa? You are invited to the Kickstarter Kickoff event on February 1st at 7pm. For more information please follow The Art Garage on Facebook and Instagram @ladyelinesartgarage or visit the website www.ladyelines.com
